Chicken & Beer Festival is set to return to Indianapolis for its fourth consecutive year, offering a unique celebration of culture, community, and local entrepreneurship. More than just a gathering of food lovers, the event—held at University Park on October 19, 2024, from 2 to 8 p.m.—aims to break down cultural barriers and challenge stereotypes, all while showcasing diverse culinary talents from Central Indiana.
The festival, which brings together 50 local vendors, provides a platform for small businesses, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to share their delicious creations with the community. It’s a space where Filipino, Venezuelan, Indian, and American comfort food vendors are celebrated alongside local breweries, creating an inclusive atmosphere that highlights the vibrancy of Central Indiana’s food scene.
At its core, Chicken & Beer Festival – Indianapolis is about more than just good food—it’s about supporting small businesses and promoting economic growth. Local vendors have the opportunity to shine, with 100% of the proceeds from larger food portions going directly back to them. This emphasis on entrepreneurship and local economic development aligns with the mission of EatHere®, the event’s organizer.
Bradley Houser, the festival’s founder and an African-American entrepreneur, started the event with a vision of reclaiming the narrative surrounding fried chicken. Often associated with harmful stereotypes, fried chicken holds a rich cultural significance in African-American heritage. Houser wanted to create an event that not only celebrated this history but also brought people together across cultural lines.
“Fried chicken is more than just a dish—it’s a symbol of the rich culinary traditions that define our community,” says Houser. “Chicken & Beer Festival offers a space where people can enjoy food from all corners of the world while connecting over shared experiences.”
While fried chicken is a focal point, the festival offers much more. Guests can enjoy a wide array of dishes from various local food vendors, representing cuisines from all over the globe. The event also features live entertainment, music, and the fan-favorite “Spicy Chicken Challenge” competition, making it an exciting day for families and friends alike.
