Mentors of Color is on a mission to elevate minority entrepreneurs by fostering meaningful mentorship relationships that provide guidance, resources, and opportunities for growth. At the heart of the organization’s mission is a commitment to breaking down the barriers that Black professionals often face in advancing their careers and scaling their businesses. By connecting Black founders with experienced mentors, Mentors of Color is creating pathways to success and helping to reshape the landscape of entrepreneurship for people of color.
According to Together Mentoring Software, only 31% of Black employees have access to a senior leader in the workplace, compared to 41% of white employees. Underscoring that the need for initiatives like Mentors of Color is critical. Black professionals continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions, and one of the key barriers to advancement is the lack of access to mentorship. Mentors of Color empowers Black entrepreneurs to overcome challenges, unlock new business opportunities, and build strong, supportive networks that drive long-term success by offering a platform for these connections.
On October 17th, Mentors of Color in partnership with Business Equity for Indy and EmployIndy, hosted a special event bringing together Black founders, mentors, and mentees for an evening of insightful conversations, group sessions, and networking opportunities. The event included facilitated discussions on the challenges facing Black entrepreneurs, strategies for promoting diversity and scaling businesses, and advice on leveraging unique business advantages to empower connections and access.
