The Recorder Media Group proudly announced the winners of its 2025 Champions of Diversity Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations committed to advancing diversity and inclusion across industries—and Business Equity for Indy is thrilled to see how many member leaders, members, and partners have been recognized for their contributions. Honorees will be celebrated at the 18th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Dinner, to be held on January 17, 2025, at the JW Marriott Indianapolis, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. EST.
For nearly two decades, the Champions of Diversity Awards have spotlighted the changemakers who lead with purpose, fostering equity in their workplaces and communities. This year’s celebration promises to be the biggest yet, with leaders and influencers gathering to honor those making a lasting impact.
Robert Shegog, President and CEO of Recorder Media Group, emphasized the importance of the event in cultivating a culture of inclusion: “I am extremely excited to continue the Champions of Diversity tradition. This year will be our biggest celebration yet. The growth of Champions of Diversity is a direct result of the community’s increasing recognition of the importance of diversity and inclusion in every aspect of life. People want to align themselves with an event that stands for something meaningful, and Champions of Diversity does that by shining a light on those who lead with purpose.”
In partnership with the broader Indianapolis community, Recorder Media Group celebrates these champions not just for their accomplishments but for their role in building a more equitable and inclusive city.
“At Recorder Media Group, it is our mission to empower and educate our community,” Shegog added. “Champions of Diversity is a significant way we can do that. These awards continue to inspire a new generation of leaders and advocates who prioritize inclusion and equity as core values in their professional and personal lives.”
This year, Business Equity for Indy (BEI) is proud to recognize several of its leaders, members, and partners among the honorees:
● Shannon Williams, Mind Trust
● Fred Payne, United Way of Central Indiana
● Darry Locket, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Indiana

BEI’s impact extends to its workforce development initiatives, with honoree Seth Morales, Morales Group, Inc., who participated in the BEI Workforce Pilot. Finally, BEI partner Marshawn Wolley, Black Onyx Management, will also be recognized for his work in advancing equity.
The 2025 Champions of Diversity Awards are more than an event—they are a call to action. They remind us that fostering equity is not just a goal but a responsibility shared by businesses, organizations, and individuals. This year’s honorees demonstrate the transformative power of intentional leadership in shaping an equitable future for Indianapolis.
“The Champions of Diversity Awards embody the heart of what we stand for at Minority Business Review, in partnership with the Recorder Media Group—empowering underrepresented voices and celebrating those who create opportunities for equity in our communities,” explained Linky Ugeh, Editor in Chief, Minority Business Review. “These honorees remind us that real progress happens when we lead with intention and purpose. Together, we can shape a future where diversity is not just celebrated but deeply embedded in the fabric of our society.”
Businesses and community members are encouraged to support the event through sponsorship or participation. By doing so, they contribute to the vital work of advancing diversity and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
