Brief Program Summary: The Multicultural Leadership Education Program (MLEP) offers
undergraduate students an opportunity to do in-depth critical readings in race, gender and
LGBTQ+ cultures, histories and experiences. Students are exposed to different ways of knowing
and being through readings and discussions with a skilled facilitator/instructor in these one-half
semester long co-curricular sessions (non-credit). At the end of the semester, students share their
experiences, lessons learned and how the shared information will impact the remainder of their
studies, professional and personal lives.
Success Metrics: Assessment of campus climate; National Survey of Student Engagement
measures degree to which the college experiences engage students in developing skills to work
with people from various backgrounds, recognize their own cultural norms and biases, learning
about other cultures, discuss issues of equity or privilege, etc.
