Academic programs

Ages Served:

5-11 Years

Overview

Brief Program Summary: Black liberation has been stolen and suppressed since our nation’s founding. Though there have been some structural and symbolic changes to acknowledge their human dignity, Black people’s essentialness to our country’s development, and their belonging within it, has not yet been fully realized. This is acutely seen in the American education system. The unjust realities that our Black children face inside of classrooms and schools has sustained a nationwide pandemic of low expectations, a school-to-prison pipeline, and the abhorrent loss of Black brilliance. pilotED Schools has, and will continue to, change this. Through our liberatory education model, we continue to iterate our Identity curriculum, expand our school sites, and hone our educator development model to transform the American education system for children in Indianapolis and beyond so every student in America achieves thriving excellence, regardless of their race or ethnicity.
Success Metrics: Success Metrics: – Programmatic Expansion: pilotED began as an after-school program, and now exists as a school model with daily Identity classes that all students engage in – Student Success: TransformED’s national survey illustrates that pilotED School’s students rank as the highest in resilience and are top-ranked in empathy and social-and-emotional comprehension among a national survey of schools.
