Overview
Brief Program Summary: The goal of this project is to provide access to a summer literacy and
civic engagement program for 50 elementary students in Indianapolis Public Schools. The
Freedom Schools program is a national initiative of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) and is
rooted in the American Civil Rights Movement and the courageous efforts of college-age youth to
make a difference. The CDF Freedom Schools program provides summer enrichment through a
research-based and multicultural curriculum that supports children and families through five
essential components.
