Overview
Brief Program Summary: This exploratory study collected the stories of a group of high school
students, parents, and educators to illustrate the challenges, opportunities, aspirations,
expectations, and gaps in services among Latinx high school students transitioning to college in
Central Indiana. Data was collected through four focus groups with Latinx parents and high school
students, and interviews with teachers serving Latinx high school-aged students. Participants of
the study were recruited from three Indianapolis Public Schools with high proportions of Latinx
students: George Washington HS, Arsenal Tech HS, and the Newcomers program in Northwest
High School. The findings of the study will be used to inform policy about services to support the
success of Latinx in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Success Metrics: The study will identify gaps in services, knowledge, and access to programs
or resources that aid Latinx Indianapolis youth to achieve post-secondary options.
