Business Equity for Indy’s (BEI) Policy Taskforce takes into consideration policies and advocacy opportunities raised by each of BEI’s 3 Ps and subsidiary working groups. Considering these varied perspectives, as well as identifying and supporting key, community-driven efforts for advocacy, BEI’s Policy Taskforce can collectively impact the Black community through its expert government affairs and community leaders.

Recent Legislative Wins
Law Enforcement Accountability
Prevented state takeover of IMPD, preserving police proximity and accountability to the communities they serve. Also preserved the General Orders board structure in Indianapolis, a citizen-governed body that sets police policies and procedures.
2020Vaccination
Prevented restriction of employers' ability to set policy on vaccinations for their workplace to ensure continued uptake of COVID vaccines, especially for disproportionately impacted populations of color.
2021Diversity Education
Successful in making Indiana one of the only conservative states in the nation to prevent passage of "anti-CRT" laws restricting the teaching of truth in K-12 classrooms.
2022Postsecondary & Health Investment
- Postsecondary: Successful passage of automatic enrollment legislation to the 21st Century Scholars program, which will vastly expand access to postsecondary education for students of color.
- Health Investment: $350M invested over the biennial state budget in the expansion of public health and mental health services, a critical step toward adequate resources for preventative care for the most vulnerable populations of the Hoosier State.
