Revolutionizing Hiring Practices: M2N’s Mission to MPower Equity in Indiana
The hiring landscape is shifting rapidly. Businesses today are faced with a growing need to foster inclusive workplaces while navigating the challenges of an increasingly complex and diverse workforce. For many, the question isn’t just how to recruit top talent but how to recruit equitable talent—individuals who bring diverse perspectives and experiences to drive innovation.
Enter M2N, a transformative organization breaking barriers and redefining hiring practices through its groundbreaking platform, MPower.
The Beginning: A Founder’s Vision for Change
Eric Stanley, the founder and CEO of M2N, grew up in Anderson, Indiana, where he witnessed firsthand the systemic inequities minority communities face. His journey in corporate sales often left him as “the only one” in the room—a Black male navigating environments that lacked representation and equity.
“In 2020, amid the global reckoning of COVID-19 and George Floyd’s tragic death, I realized that these challenges weren’t unique to me,” Stanley reflects. “There were countless talented individuals like me—Black professionals, women, and underestimated individuals—struggling to find roles where their skills were valued. And corporations, despite their best intentions, were struggling to find and retain us.”
From this realization, M2N was born with a mission to connect underestimated talent to employers in a way that transcends traditional hiring biases.
MPower: The Technology Redefining Hiring
At the core of M2N’s work is MPower, a three-part technology platform designed to level the playing field in hiring. Its unique features tackle long-standing biases while prioritizing skills over traditional credentials:
- Curated Content for Underestimated Talent
MPower’s first component focuses on content development tailored to underestimated individuals. This includes over 250 resources aimed at helping users articulate their skills, navigate career transitions, and overcome workplace challenges.
“Too often, people don’t know how to translate life experiences into marketable skills,” explains Stanley. “MPower helps them connect the dots—showing how working in a restaurant, for example, develops customer service skills that are valuable in a corporate setting.”
- Careers That Prioritize Skills
The Careers component of MPower removes bias from the hiring process. Job seekers build skilled profiles to showcase their value to employers and match with jobs. When they apply for roles with a high match, MPower shares their anonymous skilled profile with the employer. This includes their education, experience, foundational and technical skills—but, without names, dates, or institutional affiliations that could trigger bias.
“When you remove things like names, dates, and even where someone went to school, you force employers to focus solely on what really matters: the skills a candidate brings to the table,” Stanley shared.
Employers posting jobs through MPower see matches based on skill alignment, not arbitrary credentials like “a four-year degree,” often seen in job descriptions.
- A Future-Focused Community
The third component, set to launch later this year, will introduce a community-building feature. This will create opportunities for users to connect, share resources, and foster mentorship.
“MPower is more than a hiring platform—it’s a movement to build an ecosystem where underestimated individuals can thrive,” says Stanley.
Breaking Down Barriers: Quotes from the M2N Team
Stanley’s vision for MPower was shaped by countless conversations with both job seekers and employers.
“Employers told me, ‘We want a more representative workforce, but we don’t know where to start.’ On the other side, job seekers were saying, ‘I’m skilled, but no one will give me a chance.’ MPower bridges that gap.”
Why MPower Matters: A Business and Social Imperative
In a climate where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives face increasing scrutiny, MPower offers a practical, results-driven solution.
- For Businesses: MPower simplifies hiring by connecting employers with candidates who match the skills they need. It’s not just equitable—it’s efficient and cost-effective.
- For Job Seekers: The platform gives underestimated individuals the tools to showcase their value and access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
“MPower is about opening the aperture,” Stanley emphasizes. “If we don’t expand who we consider for jobs, Indiana—and the nation—will face a talent shortage. This isn’t just a moral imperative; it’s a business one.”
Illustrating Impact: The MPower Difference
Before MPower: A highly skilled candidate without a degree applies for roles but is filtered out by automated systems requiring a bachelor’s degree.
After MPower: The same candidate builds a skilled profile, highlighting their alternative credentials, foundational and technical skills. An employer sees their potential and hires them for a role where they excel.
The Future of Inclusive Hiring
As MPower continues to grow, M2N is setting its sights on even broader horizons. While currently focused on Indiana and the Midwest, the platform is poised to scale nationally, creating equitable hiring opportunities across industries.
“Our goal is to move from commitments to actionable results,” Stanley shared. “We’re not just talking about equity—we’re making it happen.”
