Revving Up Indiana’s Economy
Indiana is often celebrated for its historic sporting events, none more iconic than the Indianapolis 500. Known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” this annual event draws in millions of fans from around the world, but the reach of the motorsports industry in Indiana goes far beyond the track. The economic impact of motorsports on the state is profound, with over 8,500 jobs currently available in the industry, providing career opportunities for both seasoned professionals and new entrants alike.
Motorsports is more than just fast cars and thrilling races—it’s a crucial part of Indiana’s economic engine. The state is home to over 500 motorsports-related companies, making it one of the key global hubs for the industry. These companies contribute significantly to the local economy, creating jobs and driving innovation. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) plays a central role in this ecosystem, not only as a legendary venue but also as a catalyst for economic growth through events, partnerships, and talent development.
In addition to IMS, companies like INDYCAR, IMS Productions, and leading racing teams such as Andretti Autosport, Chip Ganassi Racing, and others have their roots in Indiana. These organizations work together to propel the industry forward, providing internships, entry-level positions, and opportunities for career growth in a variety of roles—ranging from engineering and design to marketing and event management.
“We’re thrilled to host our first-ever Sports and Entertainment Career event right here at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, known for hosting incredible events and some of the best racing in the world,” shared Kristin Weeden, Chief Talent Officer. “We’re giving you access to a variety of organizations across sports, entertainment, and content production, including some of your favorite race teams, to explore different career paths—including seasonal jobs and internships, which are great entry points for anyone looking to get started. The roots of Indiana’s motorsports legacy run deep, particularly with the Indianapolis 500, a race that has been held at the IMS since 1911. The global significance of the Indy 500 has helped solidify Indiana’s position as a leader in the industry. Over the years, the IMS has adapted to changing times while maintaining its place as a premier racing venue.
On September 26, 2024, the IMS will once again be at the forefront of the industry, hosting its first-ever, full-scale Sports and Entertainment Career Fair, in collaboration with INDYCAR and IMS Productions.
